quality medical services are available in Cyprus, Hospitals being
equipped with all the latest facilities. English is widely spoken.
All general hospitals have both accident and emergency departments.
There
are set fees for treatment. Holidaymakers can make use of their
health insurance to cover medical expenses. Almost all brands of
manufactured medicines are available in Cyprus.
Most
permanent residents will have to register at a local state hospital.
You will need to provide your EHIC (European Health Insurance Card)
and other documentation in order to apply for a Cyprus Medical Card,
which will entitle you to government health care.
For
tourists or workers who have been there less than I year, students
and the unemployed your EHIC entitles you to use doctors and dentists
practising in state health centres. Prescriptions issued by a state
doctor are free when presented to a state pharmacy along with your
EHI card.
Hospital
treatment is provided if a state doctor refers you to a hospital, or
if you are admitted through the Accident and Emergency department of
a state hospital.
Due
to the relative affordability of private health insurance and private
medical costs in Cyprus, private health care is very widely used as
an alternative to government services.
