Marriage
in Italy
Marrying in
Italy is popular these days, for financial as well as romantic reasons. Weddings can be organised relatively easily,
and the waiting period is foreshortened for foreigners, but you will have to be
in the country for three or four days before the wedding. You will also need your original birth
certificate, your original passport and one copy of it, and a fee (currently £75). If either party is divorced, you will need
to bring the Decree Absolute, along with a translation. You must have a translator present if either
party doesn't speak Italian. The
British consulate will issue a certificate of marriage and send it to the
British registry office.
